Closing remarks by Dr. Tamas Komives (Society President) on March 29, 2012

Bonjour Mesdames et Messieurs,

I am honored to make the closing remarks on behalf of the International Ragweed Society.

First I would like to congratulate Dr. Michel Thibaudon, our Society’s Secretary General, and his colleagues for organizing this event with such professionalism, enthusiasm, and commitment.

Yes, the Ambrosia problem can be solved – but it is an uphill battle. The only way is to use all the tools that we have, and use them in a flexible, integrated, and sustainable manner. Each and every region has to have its own strategy, and the European Union needs one, too. Clear goals need to be set, with focal points, and points of reference. There should be one committee in charge, and one person responsible.

In addition, the countries need to cooperate and continuosly exchange information. The sooner the coordinated work begins the better.

Before I finish let me call your attention once more to the International Ragweed Day: I urge you to take advantage of its existence. Talk with your neighbors, your colleagues, people in the media and in politics: make them involved.

I am pleased that we had so many participants at this excellent meeting and I wish you a lot of success in suppressing the spread and the harmful effects of ragweed.

I thank you for your attention.
